KPR Verse - Interactive 2.5D Experience

For KPR Verse, I worked with Resn as the 3D artist responsible for transforming 2D illustrated artworks into interactive 2.5D environments. Working from illustrations created by other artists, I separated each image into multiple layers and reconstructed areas that were hidden in the original artwork but became visible when the camera moved. I then created custom geometry that followed the shapes of the characters, objects and landscapes, projecting the original artwork onto these models to introduce depth and movement without losing the character of the illustrations. Each artwork presented different technical and visual challenges. A key part of my role was finding the right balance between depth, camera movement and believability, allowing the scenes to move through a wider range of angles without appearing distorted or revealing the limitations of the original 2D image. I was responsible for the 3D production across the scenes, including modeling, image reconstruction, texture projection, UV preparation and optimisation. Because the experience was designed for the web, efficient geometry and texture usage were essential. I developed carefully packed UV layouts based on each object’s visible screen space, avoiding wasted texture area while maintaining detail where it mattered most. This helped keep the files lightweight without compromising the visual quality of the artwork. I collaborated closely with in-house developers to establish a workflow for adding custom properties to the 3D objects. These properties allowed individual elements to be identified, animated and controlled through code, supporting the interactive behaviour of the final experience. Resn was responsible for the creative direction,UX experience, design and development of KPR Verse website. KPR is one of the most decorated web projects of 2022–2023, winning site of the year by Awwward.
